Grace Before Dying
Robert ?BoRob? Mathews, 42, regularly clocks 160 to 200 volunteer hours a month for hospice. This is in addition to his full-time work as a hospital orderly. Like many volunteers, he says hospice has been a transforming experience.
?When I'm working around patients it draws my life towards God and changes my attitude,? he says. ?Sometimes I'll stay on long after my 12-hour shift on the ward. I tell my patients 'When I'm off I'll come and holler at ya.' I do this because I know that it could be me on that bed.?
